Nigel qualified from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993, having already earned a degree in biology from the University of Victoria. He was in mixed practice in Quesnel for two years and then moved to Calgary. Nigel and Jenni were married in 1996 (a vet school romance) and for two years Nigel worked at Calgary North Veterinary Hospital, a 25 veterinarian hospital. In 1997, Nigel and Jenni moved to England with all their savings and five suitcases. Having spent the savings, Nigel began work in a small animal hospital in Gloucester, England, where he was head of the Small Animal Medicine Department. In September 2000, Nigel and Jenni returned to Victoria, with seven suitcases, 1/3 of a shipping container, two children, a parrot and four tortoises. Nigel's interests include canine reproduction and orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. His favorite part of the job, however is being paid to play with puppies.
Jenni also qualified from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. For four years she work exclusively with caged and exotic pets, at the Calgary Caged Pet Clinic. In England, she worked at The Clockhouse Veterinary Hospital, in Stroud, Glos.. Here she was part of an Avian and Exotic Specialty Practice, and worked primarily with parrots and raptors (birds of prey), as well as with small animals. Jenni is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. She attends as many international meetings as possible, so as to be able to offer a high standard of care for avian and exotic pets. Jenni emphasizes preventive health care for reptiles, birds, rabbits and non-traditional companion animals. She tries to educate owners about their pets, and is developing a series of client information handouts which are available on line and at the practice. When not at work, Jenni is at home with the pets and three small girls, the youngest of whom was born in June 2002.
Kim graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2004, after having completed a degree in animal biology from the University of British Columbia. She was quick to move back to British Columbia after graduation and began practicing as a mixed animal Veterinarian in Sooke. Kim started working at the Sidney Animal Hospital in 2007. She enjoys treating both our canine and feline patients, and is eager to assist in the care of some of our exotic patients as well.
Kim has two cats at home, and in her spare time enjoys training for and competing in triathlons, skiing, hiking and windsurfing.
Ilija Lukic qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, UK, and went on to work in small animal practice in the UK. He came to Canada in 2001 to do the IVAS (Veterinary Acupuncture) course in Vancouver and promptly decided that the Westcoast was where he wanted to live. He has completed both basic and advanced veterinary chiropractic courses in the USA and Germany. Ilija started working at Sidney Animal Hospital in 2008. Ilija is married to Christine and they live on an organic farm on Saltspring Island. His hobbies are unfortunately restricted to farm work and renovations at present!
